In January 2019, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) employees had protested against the bus corporation and had declared an indefinite strike till they received an increment in their salaries. The strike lasted for nine days and caused financial loss to the bus company.

However, in the end, Bombay High Court ordered BEST to increase the salaries of its employees. Also, Bombay HC had asked the BEST workers union to negotiate appropriately and consider the plight of the commuters. While BEST has abided by the court's order, they have also cut down the salaries for nine days of its employees to reimburse the losses incurred during the strike.

The employees received their payment for January on February 13 and as per the pay slip, the employees had received the salary for only 22 days. Alongside, the employees have been told that the increase in their salaries would be credited by the end of this week.

The strike by the employees was initiated due to various reasons including their demand for an increment in their salaries.
