Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the final leg of Mumbai’s underground Metro Line 3 corridor, connecting Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli to Cuffe Parade, on September 30, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Tuesday, September 16. On the same day, PM Modi will also inaugurate the long-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport, a major infrastructure project expected to ease air traffic congestion at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
Addressing the BJP’s Vijay Sankalp Melava at NSCI Dome in Worli, CM Fadnavis highlighted the Mahayuti government's focus on large-scale infrastructure delivery. “In 15 years under the MVA, only 11 km of Metro lines were inaugurated. Under our leadership, 354 km will become operational,” he said.
He also emphasised the scale and ambition of ongoing projects such as the Coastal Road, Metro network expansion, east-west road connectors, and the Vadhavan Port, stating that these developments will transform Mumbai’s urban landscape.
Metro Line 3, Mumbai’s first fully underground metro corridor, spans 33.5 km from Cuffe Parade to Aarey JVLR and is being commissioned in phases. The Aarey–BKC section began operations in October 2024, followed by the BKC–Acharya Atre Chowk stretch in May 2025. With the upcoming inauguration of the Acharya Atre Chowk to Cuffe Parade segment, South Mumbai’s business district will finally have a direct metro link to BKC, significantly reducing commute times and easing road congestion.
