Central Railway has imposed temporary restrictions on the sale of platform tickets at select major stations from October 16 to 28. This decision has been taken to reduce the rush of passengers on the occasion of Diwali and Chhath Puja.
This ban will be in effect at Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Lokmanya Terminals, Thane, Kalyan, Panvel stations. Western Railway has temporarily stopped the sale of platform tickets at four of its major stations to reduce crowding during the upcoming festive season, railway officials told PTI.
Restrictions on platform ticket sales will remain in force at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai and Vapi, Udhna and Surat stations in Gujarat from October 15 to 31. According to the press release, exemptions will be granted in certain cases — including those assisting senior citizens, women passengers, persons with disabilities (special abilities), illiterate people, or those in need of special assistance.
In October last year, nine passengers were injured in a stampede to board a train at Bandra station in Mumbai during the festive rush. Meanwhile, special blocks will be taken up and down fast lanes as well as 5th and 6th lanes for launching the girder of the 12-meter wide pedestrian overbridge (FOB) at Dombivli station on Central Railway.
The Central Railway has said that the block will be closed for 3 hours from 12.20 am to 3.20 am on the night of October 15 and 16, and for an hour from 1.20 am to 3.20 am on the down and up fast lines.
