Mumbaikars heading to the Konkan coast will soon have a faster and more convenient option with the new roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry service from Mumbai to Ratnagiri. The M2M Ferries service offers a quicker and more scenic alternative to the long road trip from Mumbai to Jaigad in Ratnagiri.
Currently, driving from Mumbai to Vijaydurg takes around ten to twelve hours. With the Ro-Ro ferry, the journey to Jaigad will take less than three hours. Overall travel to Vijaydurg will be under five hours.
The ferry has four travel classes with the following prices:
The ferry can carry up to 50 cars and 30 two-wheelers at a time. The ferry will depart from Bhau Cha Dhakka, Mumbai, at 6.30 am and return two hours after reaching Vijaydurg.
The service was originally scheduled to start before Ganesh Chaturthi but was delayed due to bad weather. After several test runs, operations are now planned to begin on September 1. Ports Minister Nitesh Rane, who inspected the ferry, confirmed that the weather is improving and the commercial service will launch after a five-day trial period.
This is Maharashtra’s second Ro-Ro ferry service, following the successful March 2020 launch of the Mumbai–Mandwa (Alibaug) route. The government plans to expand the service further by starting new jetties at Shrivardhan, Mandwa, and other locations along the Konkan coast.
