As of Tuesday, April 23, the outer limit geo-fencing distance limits for booking paperless tickets using the UTS Mobile App have been removed by Indian Railways. The new update allows riders to purchase paperless tickets from any location for non-reserved classes. This includes both suburban and non-suburban trips. However, the inner limit laws, which only permit ticket purchases outside of station property, remain unchanged.

Before this change, commuters could only book paperless tickets via the UTS App for outer limit lengths of 20 kms for suburban ticket) and 50 for non-suburban ticket. This affected their ability to plan and buy tickets easily.

This is beneficial for cities like Mumbai, where thousands of commuters depend on the UTS App for their daily transport. Currently, 25 per cent of commuters use the UTS App to purchase tickets. With the recent changes, it is expected that usage of the UTS on mobile app will increase.
