The Mumbai Traffic Police has taken stringent action against over 50,000 auto rickshaw drivers as part of a crackdown on reckless driving.
During a special initiative spanning from April 8 to 22, e-challans were issued to 52,179 auto drivers, Mumbai Police officials said in an official statement.
Additionally, license suspension has been initiated against 32,645 drivers who refused trips.
Moreover, as per the information given by the city traffic police on its social media platform X account, as many as 5,264 drivers have been caught without their uniforms, whereas 8,650 drivers had exceeded the passenger limit in the autorickshaw.

This development came after RTO started a helpline of Whatsapp chatbot and e-mail last year for complaints against misbehaviour, refusal to pay fare, charging more than the prescribed rate by auto and taxi drivers. For this, the number 9152240303 and e-mail ID mh03autotaxicomplaint@gmail.com.
Between July 11, 2023 to January 31, 2024, 1650 complaints have been received against auto rickshaw and taxi licence holders. Meanwhile, licences of 654 drivers have been suspended.
