Central Government's Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric vehicles (FAME-II) scheme promote the use of electric vehicles in the country to curb pollution. Under this, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) will introduce 26 new AC electric buses. These buses will start plying from Friday (December 4). The buses were inaugurated by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at Nariman Point, Murli Deora Chowk. Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Mayor Kishori Pednekar, BEST Committee Chairman Praveen Shinde, BEST General Manager Surendra Kumar Bagade were also present on this occasion.

As per reports, the new electric buses will have a seating capacity of 60 passengers while the buses will be equipped with modern technology which includes noise-free and pollution-free. The e-buses can travel up to 200 kilometres in a single charge.

These 26 AC electric buses are manufactured by Tata Motors. While these electric buses will help to curb pollution and save fuel. BEST already has six electric buses which were introduced in 2017. Apart from this, 66 electric buses that are on rent basis have also been introduced. A total of 340 electric buses will join BEST's fleet by 2022. Therefore, in the coming days, Mumbaikars will be able to travel pollution-free and will also save fuel.
