The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has implemented many plans to encourage waste segregation among citizens. On Tuesday, July 30, BMC Chief Praveen Pardeshi passed a proposal of rebating 7 per cent of Property Tax for the housing societies which segregate waste.

Property Tax was one of the biggest sources of revenue for the BMC especially after octroi was subsumed by the GST (Goods and Service Tax). That's not the end of the lucrative offer, BMC will further waive the tax if the housing societies dispose off their own dry waste and make compost out of wet waste.

Previously, BMC had imposed ₹15,000 fine on bulk generators of waste that did not segregate garbage i.e. commercial places or housing societies producing over 100 kg of waste daily. The new move is all set to raise more awareness among people and bring them to action with reducing the load of dumping grounds considerably.
