BMC Claims To Have Filled 51,691 Potholes Since April 2021

Flooding in Mumbai every year is a recurring phenomenon, the rains bring with it potholes that are caused due to the accumulation of rainwater on the roads. These potholes sometimes are so big that they result in several mishaps. In order to solve this issue and to provide quality roads to the locals, a large number of roads are being repaired by the municipal corporation.

According to reports, 51,691 pits have been filed since April. Along with this, a special operation that was conducted to reduce the number of potholes caused by incessant rains a few days ago has revealed that 7,594 potholes have been filed in 15 days.

The accounts further elucidate that the civic authority has 5348 roads of nearly 2000 km. There are 1809 road defects of about 70km in the liability period. There are 426 project roads of 147 km and 3113 non-DLP roads of 1187 km. The work of filling the potholes on these roads is done at the central road system and ward office level.

This year, due to a large number of potholes on the road, the civic authority was criticized. Against this backdrop, the commissioner had on September 28 held a meeting and directed to launch a special drive to fill the potholes within 15 days. A large number of which have been filled in the action taken accordingly.

Based on narratives, cold-mix can also be used to fill in the gaps which are manufactured at the municipality’s Worli plant. 3218 metric tonnes of cold-mix have been distributed in all 24 wards as per demand. In this, 12074 bags were distributed.
