According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed the beautification and repair works of footpaths in three municipal wards in the western suburbs to make them free of encroachment and friendly for pedestrians.

Based on the account by HT, the civic body has spotted eight locations in Andheri (West), BorivaliDahisar, certain parts of the Juhu Versova Link Road, and SV Road in Dahisar as well as the Link Road in Dahisar and Borivali.

In accordance with the plan, the present paver block footpath will be replaced with cement-concrete ones that are anticipated to result in ease of walkability. It will also include the installation of street furniture, artificial gardens, and new road signages. Moreover, murals will also be painted and put up alongside the footpath, highlighted the narrative.

It has been reported that the BMC has floated tenders for this earlier this month and the aggregate cost has been put at INR 9.35 crore. In addition to this, a year-long time has been pegged for the project, remarked officials.

Back in 2020, the civic authority had undertaken the beautification work of footpaths in certain heritage spots in south Mumbai including Colaba and Kala Ghoda.

Then in October 2021, the BMC's roads department drew out 33 different locations in central and south Mumbai for improvement works on the footpaths

In these earlier projects, the civic body had replaced the current paver blocks with footpaths made of cement and concrete.
