The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to paint the sidewalks, curb stones of footpaths and walls around main roads along with dividers.

This development comes as the civic body aims to increase the road safety just ahead of the BMC elections 2022, which are slated to be held in March-April, this year.

As a part of its mission to make 100 per cent pedestrian friendly roads, the work of painting the central dividers of Mumbai roads is in full swing through all wards.

Recently, State Environment and Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray and Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District, had directed the civic officials to take various measures to increase visibility on the roads, enable drivers to drive safely, reduce the number of accidents, and beautify road areas.

Moreover, the minister took to Twitter and shared that the completely revamped look of Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel adding that it is now pedestrian friendly, traffic friendly and cycle friendly.

Accordingly, Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Project) P. Velarasu instructed all the administrative department offices across all wards in Mumbai.

Modifications to be done:

  • Cleaning and re-painting of central dividers on roads.
  • Build dividers on roads where possible if dividers do not exist.
  • Planting of greens or flowers in dividers.
  • Beautification of transport islands.
  • Artistic painting on the surrounding walls on major roads.
