On February 13, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Standing Committee approved the proposal to install 560 perforated steel bins across Mumbai. The civic body has decided to install these dustbins in commercial areas.

Accordingly, BMC has allotted ₹72 lakh for the project. The step was taken by BMC keeping in mind the safety and security of the people. Earlier, the terrorists have planted bombs in the steel dustbins and therefore, the civic body has decided to install the bins with holes (perforated).

On the other hand, opposition leader Ravi Raja has questioned the decision and has displayed his doubts regarding the prices. He stated that the bins were available online for mere ₹3,000 per unit but as per the BMC quotation, it costs a whopping ₹12,990 per unit.

While the Standing Committee has approved the proposal, a detailed discussion about the same will take place by the end of next week.
