The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to focus on 10 administrative wards which have 46 per cent of the coronavirus cases. This comes at a time when the cases in Mumbai seem to be plateauing.

The civic body is touted to implement the strategy from Monday, August 17. The wards that have been selected based on their coronavirus cases growth rate, doubling rate, positivity rate and fatality rate are R North (Dahisar), R South (Kandivli), R Central (Borivli), S (Bhandup), N (Ghatkopar), T (Mulund), G North (Dadar-Mahim), M East (Govandi), P North (Malad) and L (Kurla).

This new strategy comes after the BMC had earlier launched the 'Mission Zero' rapid action plan at the Shahji Raje Bhosale Complex. Under the programme, 50 mobile dispensary vans visited several parts of the city in order to conduct a preliminary examination of the patients.

These mobile dispensary vans visited places like Mulund, Bhandup, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, Dahisar and Kandivali areas for 2-3 weeks in a bid to conduct a preliminary examination of the patients.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra, on Saturday, August 15, clocked 12,614 fresh cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, propelling the state's COVID-19 tally to 5,84,754, as per data from the state health department.

The number of recovered patients rose by 6,844 in the same period, taking the aggregate of recovered cases to 4,08,286. The recovery rate in the state now stands at 69.82 per cent, closing in on the national average of 71.6 per cent.
