Taking a leaf from the Indian Railways' book, the BMC has initiated its own one rupee clinic plan.

The Railways claim they are getting a fair response to the service and have even started a home service, wherein citizens can give a missed call to the clinic and seek services at home. Considering the positive response, the BMC is also planning to launch its own one rupee clinic. This clinic will be thrown open at civic-run hospitals which are either shut down or those hospitals which have additional space. This clinic will operational from 9 am to 4 pm.

“We are in talks with BMC commissioner for the same. If everything falls into place, we will also start a helpline number,” said Dr Rahul Ghule, founder, 1 rupee clinic. More than 6,000 patients have visited 1 rupee clinic in a month's time. Amongst these, 3,800 patients visited the Ghatkopar clinic, 1,800 patients visited the Kurla clinic and 600 patients visited the clinic in Wadala. Along with this, more than 600 women turned up for a special check-up.

Dr. Rahul Ghule added that this service will be extended to Thane and Vashi from July and it will also be launched at the Western Railway's suburban stations.
