BMC to place plastic collection bins across the city to collect plastic related items from households

To make the plastic ban more effective, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be placing plastic collection containers each in all 24 municipal wards and one each in all municipal markets from next week.

Mumbaikars have been asked to discard all plastic related items into the plastic collection boxes.

After the implementation of the plastic ban by the state government, Mumbaikars stopped buying veggies in plastic bags but were clueless regarding plastic related items lying in the house. Hence, the BMC came into the picture with plastic collection boxes.

We have finalised the list of areas where we will be placing the bins. For now, we will be placing one bin each in all 24 wards and in all 92 markets in Mumbai,” Nidhi Choudhary, deputy municipal commissioner (Special).

Choudhary added that first, the BMC will create awareness about plastic bags amongst Mumbaikars, then they will ask people to use cloth bags. For the same, the civic body will update the list of cloth bag sellers on their website to help people out.
