Soon, Maharashtra government will be successful in stopping the production of plastic bags as the format of the draft notification of the entire plastic and thermocol ban in Maharashtra will be published in the government's gazette, informed Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam.

Kadam said during a meeting with officials of Plastic Association that he will try a full plastic ban in the state from Gudhi Padva which falls on March 18, 2018.

State to take legal action against companies who generate plastic

Kadam added that on a daily basis, 1800 ton plastic waste is generated in Maharashtra which hampers environment on large scale. The state is planning to ban plastic bags, thermocol-made plates, glasses, spoons, cups, banners and garlands from March 18, 2018. The state will also take legal action against companies who generate plastic, companies who preserve plastic.

The state has given rights to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Commissioner, Health Officer, Sanitation Inspector, Collector, Deputy Collector, Deputy Divisional Officer, Chief Executive Officer, Group Development Officer, Gramsevak, Education Officer, Pollution Board Officer, Police Inspector, Traffic Police, to take action against people and companies who will use plastic bags and manufacture the same and the guilty will be prosecuted under Maharashtra Non-biodegradable and Garbage (Control) Act, 2006.
