The BMC has introduced a unique way to collect plastic bottles in seven schools in Parel. The F-South ward has installed special basketball-style bins where students can throw used plastic bottles through a basketball net. The aim is to make waste collection more engaging while encouraging children to separate plastic waste.
The initiative is part of the civic body’s efforts to improve waste management and promote cleanliness following criticism from the Bombay High Court.
The response from students has been encouraging. Officials said all seven collection bins have already been filled with plastic bottles, helping keep them out of the regular waste stream.
The BMC hopes the activity will increase awareness about plastic waste and encourage students to take an active role in keeping their surroundings clean.
