The historic Shiv Temple in Ambernath is set to undergo a major redevelopment under the ‘Rudra Punarkalpana’ project, on the lines of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor.
The nearly 1,000-year-old Shilahara-era temple attracts lakhs of devotees and tourists every year. The redevelopment aims to improve facilities for visitors while preserving the temple’s heritage. The proposed project will include beautification of the temple premises, wider pedestrian pathways, public facilities, an information centre, cultural spaces, parking facilities, green areas and rainwater management systems.
Since the temple comes under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), all development work will be carried out in accordance with heritage conservation rules and ASI guidelines.
Ambernath Municipal Council has now started the process of appointing a Project Management Consultant (PMC) through a competitive tender. The consultant will be responsible for preparing feasibility studies, concept plans, detailed project reports, architectural and engineering designs, cost estimates, and overseeing technical and quality aspects of the project.
The project is being pursued with the efforts of Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Dr Shrikant Shinde. Officials expect the redevelopment to boost religious tourism and give the historic temple and Ambernath city a more prominent identity.
