According to reports, the 10 per cent water cut in Mumbai has been taken back by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This is reportedly being undertaken in the aftermath of good rainfall in the catchment areas where the seven water supply lakes are located. However, the civic body has urged citizens to continue using water judiciously.

Based on accounts, there was a seven per cent increase in the water stock in lakes supplying water to Mumbai in one day. It has been reported that till Friday, July 8, morning, the aggregate stocks are at 25.94 per cent.

Earlier, the BMC had enforced a 10 per cent water cut in the areas under its jurisdiction from June 27. This was done because of insufficient rainfall and inadequate water stock in the seven dams.

Following the persistent rainfall seen in Mumbai, water stock in all seven reservoirs increased by 82,819 million litres in four days, accounts suggest.

BMC data suggests that as of July 7, all seven lakes have 2,76,129 million litres of water or 19.08 per cent of the total capacity of 14,47,363 lakh million litres. In the last ten days, the lake levels have risen by 7 per cent following incessant downpours.

On Thursday, July 7, triple-digit rainfall continued to lash Mumbai for the third consecutive day. Additionally,  a red alert has been issued for Friday, July 8 in MumbaiThanePalghar and Raigad

For those unversed, Mumbai draws water from Bhatsa, Middle Vaitarna, Upper Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Tulsi and Vihar.
