Amid continuous rains, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for tomorrow, July 8, in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar. This indicates heavy rainfall a few places & extremely heavy rains too at isolated places. Meanwhile an orange alert has been issued for today, July 7.

Additionally, IMD Mumbai's Jayant Sarkar said that in the last 3-4 days central Maharashtra and Konkan region received good rainfall due to favourable conditions of monsoon. It will remain same for next 4-5 days.

Reports stated that the island city (south Mumbai) received 82 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours, while the eastern and western suburbs received 109 mm and 106 mm downpour. Whereas, Palghar received an average 89.27 mm downpour in the 24-hour period ending at 10 am on Thursday, with Wada taluka receiving the maximum 135 mm rainfall.

According to reports, one person was injured after a portion of his house collapsed following heavy rains in Maharashtra's Palghar district. At least 32 houses were also partially damaged in different talukas of Palghar due to the heavy downpour. 

Besides, with heavy rains pouring for the fourth consecutive day, the water stocks in the seven lakes supplying to Mumbai has surpassed last year's quantum first time this season.

On the other hand, on Saturday and Sunday, July 9 and 10 respectively it anticipates a "likely" chance of "heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places". 

According to reports, since June 1, the total rainfall registered in Mumbai was 43 per cent of the season's total required rainfall of 2,205 mm at 958 mm.
