In recent developments, Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has informed that there is no containment zone as of Saturday, August 14.

Moreover, elucidating further, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal stated, "This is the happiest day of my life. All along we have been working hard towards having zero containment zones in the city and today we have achieved it.” However, he urged caution even though the COVID-19 graph has been showing daily improvement.

The outbreak of the coronavirus had affected the slums of Dharavi, Wadala, Mankhurd, Govandi, Worli Koliwada, Bandra East, Andheri East, Jogeshwari, Malad, Kandivali, Borivali and Dahisar the most. Therefore, the biggest challenge before the BMC was to stop the speed of COVID-19 spread in the slum area.

On the other hand, in the first ten days of August, the vaccination numbers have witnessed a downward trend by 30%, reported the Times of India. Based on data, almost 40 lakh doses were given in the first and last ten days of July. Similarly, in August till the said date less than 28 lakh doses were given.

Reports state that Dr Pradeep Vyas the additional chief secretary elucidated that the numbers have fallen because the supply was limited. 8.26 lakh doses were received in August in the state. This shortage has resulted in the curtailment of the public vaccination drive in the city on August 12 and 13. With the travel in local trains now dependent on citizens being fully vaccinated, it is expected that the demand for vaccines will further surge.
