COVID-19 Vaccination drive at public centres in Mumbai will not be operational on August 12 (Thursday) and 13 (Friday) owing to the lack of vaccines, stated the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The 314 civic and government-run centres will remain non-operational on the above-mentioned dates.

Reports, however, claim that the drive will commence operation on August 14, Saturday. It is anticipated that the state will get its hand on fresh batches of the vaccine on August 12 and thus will send it to the centres on August 13.

Additionally, based on an order by the Bombay High Court, the citizens should be given a day’s notice regarding the resumption or suspension of the inoculation drive. Therefore, the civic authorities have decided to curtail the vaccination drive on August 13 as well.

This happens to be the second time that the vaccination drive in the city has been suspended at government-run centres this month. Similarly, on Wednesday only 24 of the state and civic-run centres were functional, whilst 13 provided Covaxin, 11 offered Covishield. With each being allotted 100 doses.

According to reports, out of the 314 state and civic-run centres in the city, 270 are situated in 227 wards at the administrative level.

On August 11, Mumbai reported 289 cases with 9 COVID deaths. The total tests conducted stood at 36,720, thus the recovery rate is 97%.
