The Mumbai Police, in order to curb cases of coronavirus, has resolved to opt for strict measures that it issued on Sunday. The Mumbai Police can now punish you for venturing 2 km away from the house for any work, apart from essential services or going to the office.

Appealing to the people, Deputy Commissioner of Police Prannoy Ashok said, "As soon as the lockdown had eased, the citizens started crowding the roads with a large number of vehicles." Police have started cracking down on people who crowd outside without any reason. Mumbai Police has blocked 5,000 places on Sunday and taken action against 5,000 vehicles. Although it has helped prevent the spread of the coronavirus, it is not completely eliminated, so it is important to follow the rules of social distancing. The threat of the COVID-19 epidemic is still unavoidable. In such a situation, we all need social distantness, sanitization, constant hand washing. The Mumbai Police further took to Twitter to announce guidelines for the same.

The reason for this stringent measure lies in the fact that the citizens of the city have been seen overcrowding on the beaches and markets, often disrupting the protocols of social distancing. According to the Mumbai Police, the guidelines that are to be maintained while venturing out are as follows.

  • All outdoor movement should be restricted to essential services only. People can venture out to buy groceries or medicines. However, a casual social gathering can lead you to fall into trouble.
  • While moving outdoors, wearing a face mask is a necessity. Due to the contagious nature of the coronavirus, it is absolutely necessary to wear a face mask. However, many citizens have been observed all over the country flouting these basic guidelines.
  • Visits to markets, shops, salons, shall be restricted to the 2 km radius. Movement of people outside this radius has been prohibited by the Mumbai Police.
  • Moreover, an outdoor movement for the purpose of the exercise is also prohibited if it is not within the 2 km radius. People are encouraged to pursue physical activities in isolation within the radius.
  • In cases where an individual has to attend office, or tend to any medical emergencies, movement beyond the 2 km radius is permitted.
  • Social distancing protocols are to be followed at all times. Overcrowding or social gatherings are discouraged and can lead to consequences.
  • Actions can be taken by the Mumbai Police against those who decide to flout the protocols of social distancing.
  • Shops and markets that do not follow the social distancing guidelines shall be closed.
  • There should not be any movement of people except for essential services during the night curfew. Any violation against the night curfew shall be further penalised.
  • Vehicles plying around in other areas without a valid reason will be impounded.
