The cases of Coronavirus continue to be on a rise in India. On Friday, June 26, 2020, the coronavirus (COVID-19) count in India crossed the 5-lakh mark. The first COVID-19 case in India was identified in March 2020, and since March 25, 2020, the nation was under a strict lockdown due to the outbreak.  

Despite the lockdown, the number of cases have not come down. Maharashtra is one of the worst impacted states in India, and even on Friday, June 26, the state witnessed the highest single-day jump in the number of coronavirus cases with 5,024 cases reported in one day. In addition to this, there were 175 deaths reported. With this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state reach 1.52,765 cases out of which 65,829 are active. 

Navi Mumbai, which is a part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) too is witnessing a spike in the number of cases. According to the NMMC site, there are 5853 coronavirus cases in the region of which 2,365 are active cases. To keep the number in control a big decision has been announced by Cabinet Minister Eknath Shinde. Under this, a complete lockdown will be imposed in Navi Mumbai for seven days starting June 29.

This decision was announced by Shinde after consultation with Municipal corporation and police officials. There will be a strict lockdown in place from June 29 to July 5. The complete lockdown will be followed for 10 containment zones in the area which will cover almost 71,000 households. It is also being said that during this period there will aggressive screening of citizens. 

Citizens of the area have been given some time to prepare before the complete lockdown is imposed. During the lockdown, there will be strict restrictions on the movement. No one will be allowed to exit or enter the containment zones. The only exceptions would be in case of medical emergencies and the purchase of essential goods.

In the last 10 days, there has been a spike in the number of cases of Coronavirus in the area. There has been appropriate action initiated by the authorities to contain the spread. Almost six lakh people have been contacted via phone and made aware of the virus and the information has been shared online with them. A helpline number has also been announcement 022-27567269. People calling on this number will be able to get a free consultation over the phone via a medical professional or a doctor. 

Apart from this, flu clinic has been announced in 23 hospitals and 4 clinics in the Navi Mumbai area. Areas in which large number of cases are being reported, mass screening are being organised in them. Till now, almost 32,000 people have been tested under this.
