Doctor Vipin Sharma, Municipal Commissioner, On July 17, stated that the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) is building a field hospital in a parking lot adjoining Jupiter hospital. This step has been taken to ensure that in case the hospital runs out of beds or there is a sudden spike in cases, the treatment does not pause for the COVID-19 patients.
Meanwhile, as many as 1,910 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Thursday, July 16, 2020, in the Thane district, which took the tally to 62,398 cases. According to a senior official, 48 more patients succumbed to the infection. Of the 48 deaths, Thane city and the power loom town of Bhiwandi reported 13 each in the district. The death toll in the district has increased to 1,774. Thane district accounts for 22.60 per cent of the total cases and 16.23 per cent of the deaths in the state. On the other hand, Kalyan added 524 cases, taking the total to 14,598 total positive cases. In Thane city, the tally reached 14,832 cases after 413 more people tested positive for the contagious disease.
Navi Mumbai also recorded approximately 273 cases to take the count to 10,546 whereas Ulhasnagar reported 203 new cases and Mira Bhayander 125. As per reports, an official from Palghar said the coronavirus count in the adjoining district stood at 10,678, while 202 people have died so far due to the respiratory illness. Thane city already has a field hospital at Saket and is working towards developing one at a shut factory at Pokhran-1. Meanwhile, two are being developed at Mumbra and Kalwa by MHADA.
In order to break the chain of the coronavirus and contain the spread, it has been decided by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) to extend the total lockdown till July 19. The complete lockdown in Thane has started from 7 pm on July 12 and will remain in effect till 7:00 pm on July 19.
