The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has reserved 80 per cent of the beds at private hospitals for COVID-19 treatment across its periphery. The order was issued by Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi which went on to state that beds in NICUs, dialysis wards or paediatric intensive care units will be exempt from this new decision.

The order also mentioned that hospitals should only charge the amount mentioned by the civic body to avoid overcharging of patients.

Private hospitals were also asked to provide information on bed availability as well as the charges at the main entrance so that each patient can prepare accordingly. The commissioner mentioned that private hospitals will face action for non-adherence of these rules.

KDMC is currently one of the worst-hit regions in Mumbai with a total of 13,240 cases reported within its jurisdiction and 198 deaths as of the most recent figures.

On the other hand, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) is now seeking the help of corporators in the region to aid COVID-19 patients with hospital admissions while also providing them authority to set up mohalla clinics in their localities.

In a letter written to local corporators, MBMC’s Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Medical), Sambaji Waghmare also mentioned that extensive contact tracing of suspected patients in the region will be done with the help of Anganwadi workers, Health Department staff, teachers as well as other civic employees.

Mira-Bhayandar has seen a steady increase in cases with the region recording 303 cases in a single day earlier this month. The situation wasn’t much better in June either as cases continued to mount in the area.

So far, a total of 5,746 coronavirus cases have been identified while the death toll currently stands at 199 in the Mira-Bhayandar region.
