The number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra's Mira-Bhayandar area has been increasing rapidly and the officials are working hard to ensure necessary medical facilities provided to the people in need.

A report released on June 18, 2020, states that 11 employees of the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) have been infected with Coronavirus. These employees were currently working at the Indira Gandhi maternity hospital and upon knowing this, fear has spread among staff members and the patients. A total of seven nurses, one dialysis technician, and three other support staff have tested positive for COVID-19.

Updates also state that a maternity ward was set up at the Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Hospital and Indira Gandhi Hospital. However, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Hospital was converted into a COVID-19 facility and the maternity ward has been closed. As a result, the number of pregnant women at the Indira Gandhi Maternity hospital has increased along with the cases for every day dialysis and outpatient treatments.

Furthermore, these patients have not been tested for coronavirus and the risk of infection has increased among the staff members since necessary safety equipment is not available.

The state of Maharashtra has permitted certain relaxations in the coronavirus lockdown. On June 11, 2020, Mira Bhayandar witnessed a single-day highest jump with around 145 cases. And now, In a week, 632 patients have tested positive from the area.

Officials have observed a rise in the cases after the relaxations were permitted. On June 8, 2020, Mira-Bhayandar had a total of 1,021 cases, and in a span of seven days, the tally has increased to 1,653. 

As of June 17, 2020, a total of 5,136 swap samples were tested of which 1,882 cases tested positive. Results of 274 samples are awaited. Around 91 deaths have been registered and 1,002 patients have recovered from coronavirus. The locality currently has 789 active coronavirus patients.
