Mumbai: NESCO Officials Move High Court for Bail in Drug Overdose Death Case

Two officials associated with the NESCO exhibition centre in Goregaon have approached the Bombay High Court seeking bail in connection with the drug overdose deaths reported during a recent event at the venue.

The case stems from an incident earlier this month in which young attendees allegedly consumed banned narcotic substances during a music event held at NESCO. The incident led to multiple medical emergencies, including fatalities, prompting a large-scale police investigation.

The accused officials, who were arrested as part of the probe, have challenged their arrest and subsequent denial of bail by a lower court. In their petition before the High Court, they argued that:

  • They were performing their assigned duties at the venue

  • They had no involvement in the consumption or distribution of drugs

  • No contraband was recovered from them

  • Their arrest was carried out without proper justification or procedure

They have requested the court to grant them bail, claiming they have been wrongly implicated in the case.

Investigating agencies, however, maintain that the arrests were made based on preliminary evidence linking the accused to lapses in event management and possible indirect involvement in the incident. The police are continuing to examine the chain of events, including how prohibited substances entered the venue.

Authorities are probing a wider network suspected of supplying drugs at such events. Several individuals, including alleged suppliers and intermediaries, have already been detained or arrested.

The Bombay High Court is expected to hear the bail plea and seek responses from the prosecution before making a decision.
