The Bombay High Court has set aside a special court order framing charges against four accused in the 2006 Malegaon blast case, effectively quashing the proceedings against them.
A division bench allowed the appeals filed by the accused, observing that the trial court’s decision to frame charges was not legally sustainable. With this ruling, the criminal case against the four stands closed.
The case pertains to the September 8, 2006 serial blasts in Malegaon, Maharashtra, which killed 31 people and injured over 300. The investigation was handled by multiple agencies over the years, including the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and the National Investigation Agency (NIA), before reaching the trial stage.
The latest verdict marks a significant development in a case that has been under legal scrutiny for nearly two decades.
