Trial to Begin in IIT Bombay Student Darshan Solanki Death Case

A Mumbai court has directed that the trial proceed in the death case of Darshan Solanki, a student of IIT Bombay.

The accused, Arman Khatri, has been charged with abetment to suicide and criminal intimidation, along with provisions under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He has denied the charges and will face trial.

Solanki, an 18-year-old first-year engineering student, died by suicide on February 12, 2023, after allegedly jumping from a hostel building on the campus. During the investigation, a note recovered from his room reportedly held the accused responsible, following which a chargesheet was filed.

The case had sparked widespread attention, with allegations including harassment and possible caste-based discrimination. With charges now framed, the court will move ahead with hearings as the trial begins.
