A fatal incident at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Mumbai has triggered a police investigation into alleged drug use and serious safety lapses during a late-night music event, as per the report by Mid Day.
Two management students, aged 28 and 24, lost their lives, while another attendee remains in critical condition after reportedly consuming a suspected narcotic substance at the venue. Officials believe the case may involve MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, and are examining how the substance was accessed inside the event.
Police have arrested five individuals so far, including persons linked to the event’s organisation and others connected to the victims. Authorities are also questioning staff and reviewing security arrangements at the venue.
Preliminary findings point to multiple lapses, including inadequate screening at entry points, possible circulation of drugs within the premises, and insufficient medical response systems. Investigators are also looking into allegations of underage alcohol access.
The victims reportedly began experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, breathlessness and cramps during the event and were rushed to nearby hospitals in the early hours. Two were declared dead later.
The incident has raised concerns over safety compliance and monitoring at large public gatherings in the city. Officials said further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
