Here's What Aditya Thackeray Has Promised After Being Elected As Tourism and Environment Minister

A week after Maharashta's Cabinet Ministers were allotted their portfolios, it was no surprise that Aditya Thackeray has been elected as the Environment and Tourism Minister. Owing to his contribution towards Aarey, beach clean-ups, Mithi river clean-ups and Mumbai's nightlife, Mumbaikars believe that they perceive Aditya Thackeray as a promising Miniter. Following are promises that Aditya Thackeray has offered as soon as he took an oath:   

1. He urged Municipal Commissioners to look at converting Maharashtra's cities into sponge cities for the environment. Urban forests, rainwater percolation, rainwater harvesting, renewable energy, green buildings will be their focus. 

2. He further suggested them about the health and safety of sanitation workers, better disaster management mechanisms and online direct citizen grievance redressal systems across the State.

3. Taking into account climate change, they have set their target for better cities, better roads, pedestrian pathways, open spaces, urban forests, water body rejuvenation, public transport.

4. In a recent Harvard US India Initiative (HUII) he assured the youth that their focus will be on education and improving the infrastructure of Municipal Schools. 

5. Along with the clean city initiative that includes waste management and garbage dump free cities, he has urged the authorities to also look at water body cleanups and aesthetically fine cities: hoarding policy, Lane markings, dividers etc.

6. As Maharashtra celebrates 60 years of its statehood this year, he has also urged the civic authorities to make this decade, one of Urban Decade than of Urban Decay.
