Coronavirus Outbreak: Cases in Northeast Mumbai witnesses a decline

In areas of northeast Mumbai, the civic body has now succeeded in containing the cases of coronavirus. These areas include Kanjur, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Nahur and Powai.

The area of Kanjur, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Nahur, Powai coming under the jurisdiction of S Division office and has a population of around six and a half lakhs. The first patient was found here in March. This was followed by 141 in April, 1,417 in May and 2,890 in June.

The department at S Ward immediately started taking measures in order to contain the spread of the contagious disease. The growing number of patients was curtailed due to door-to-door check-ups, camps, initiatives of social organizations and measures taken for segregation.

The total number of patients tested positive in these areas were 6,780. Of these, 5,635 patients have been cured. There are 720 active patients in the area as of now. Meanwhile, 425 people have succumbed to the disease.

As per data shared by the civic body, a total of 15,863 people were screened through 209 screening camps with the help of social organizations.

On the other hand, Maharashtra reported 11,088 fresh cases of the coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, propelling the state's COVID-19 tally to 5,35,601, according to the data shared from the state health department. In Mumbai, 917 people were diagnosed with the coronavirus on Tuesday, taking the aggregate to 1,25,224.
