For years, the residents of Kolekalyan village in Santracruz have been waiting for the redevelopment project for their slums by Slum Rehabilitation Authority. The 852 slum-dwellers live together in the society of slum dwellers named ‘Om Namo Sujalam Sufalam’ Society. However, SRA hasn’t been able to find any builder who has been willing to undertake the redevelopment project since the corporation asked the interested builders to submit ₹200 crore as bank security.
Eventually, the authority has brought down the amount of security to ₹20 crore and floated the tender accordingly. Now the residents as well as SRA are keen to see whether interested builders take the tender or not.
The redevelopment project was supposed to take place 15 years ago but it has been delayed for all these years. Earlier it was halted due to a clash between two builders over the control of the project. After which, the matter was taken to Bombay High Court, as the residents asked the court to bring the project back on track.
In January 2018, the court ordered the removal of both the builders from the project and asked SRA to appoint a builder through floating a tender and asking the respective builder to keep ₹200 crore as bank security.
Accordingly, SRA floated a tender out but the tender did not receive much response. Thus, in March 2018, the Supreme Court gave the final order and told SRA to make any further decisions. After which, SRA floated another tender which also received no response.
Finally, SRA brought down the bank security amount from ₹200 crore to ₹20 crore. An official from SRA stated that recently, the third tender was floated for the builders and the tender will be opened on September 30.
