Bollywood Actor Sonu Sood on Sunday evening met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray at Matoshree. Sood has been in the limelight for his efforts to send stranded migrants back home.
This meeting comes on the same day Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut raised questions over the credibility of Sood’s campaign and said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was behind making the actor a “Mahatma”.
During his meeting with the Chief Minister, Sood discussed the relief work being done for the people during COVID-19 outbreak. The actor further said that every party across the country - from Kashmir to Kanyakumari - was supporting him.
On Sunday, Sood met the Maharashtra Chief Minister along with Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray and state Fisheries Minister Aslam Shaikh.
“This evening Sonu Sood met up with Uddhav Thackeray ji along with Minister Aslam Shaikh ji and me. Better Together, Stronger Together to assist as many people through as many people. Good to have met a good soul to work for the people together (sic),” Aaditya Thackeray tweeted.
Downplaying the criticism by Raut, Sood said that the Maharashtra government was supporting him for helping people who are suffering. Every party from Kashmir to Kanyakumari has supported him, the actor said while expressing his gratitude towards the state government for extending support in reuniting migrant workers with their families.
In his Sunday column, ‘Rokhtok’ published in Shiv Sena mouthpiece ‘Saamana’, Raut wondered whether what Sood has done could be achieved without political backing. Sood has managed to arrange for buses and flights during the lockdown when many state governments were found helpless, he said.
Raut also highlighted Sood’s meeting with Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and said that soon the actor’s name will be featured in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Man ki Baat’.
