During his visit to Shrivardhan in Raigad district, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar took a dig at Defence Minister Rajnath Singh over his remarks against Maharashtra government. Singh referred to the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government as a “circus”.
Replying to this, Pawar attacked the Union Minister and said that the circus has all the animals but it “needs a joker”. "Yes, we have a circus and animals also but we need a joker to supervise them," he said. The NCP chief was on a two-day visit to Konkan region, which has suffered the most damage due to Cyclone Nisarga.
While addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in a virtual ‘Jan Samvad’ rally, Union Minister Rajnath Singh had said that the Maharashtra government doesn’t have any vision for development and it was struggling despite being under the leadership of NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
“The Maharashtra government is a three-party government. But it seems like there is a circus instead of the government. The Maharashtra government lacks vision for development and is directionless. It is unfortunate to see the state struggling despite a strong leadership of NCP chief Sharad Pawar,” Singh said.
Singh also attacked Shiv Sena for breaking its 35-year-old alliance with the BJP after 2019 Maharashtra assembly elections over tussle regarding the Chief Minister post. While speaking to the party workers, Singh cornered Sena and said that the greed for power has prevailed over political alliance and commitments.
Meanwhile, the Union Minister also stated that the centre was helping the MVA government in the fight against COVID-19 and said that it would also extend support to provide relief to recover from the damage caused by Cyclone Nisarga.
Although Pawar has sought aid from the central government for the rehabilitation of the residents who have been affected in the natural calamity, he said that he will not demand a separate package from the state and central government.
On Tuesday, Pawar visited Mhasala, Diveagar and Shrivardhan in Raigad district to take stock of the damage due to the cyclone. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the NCP chief visited several areas in Ratnagiri district and interacted with the locals.
