Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief on Tuesday visited Mhasala, Diveagar and Shrivardhan in Raigad districts to take stock of the damage which has been caused due to Cyclone Nisarga and sought aid from the central government for the rehabilitation of the residents who have been affected in the natural calamity.

Pawar is on a two-day visit to Konkan region which has been damaged due to the cyclone. On Tuesday, Pawar visited Raigad district and interacted with the locals along with the local representatives and officials. He was accompanied by Guardian Minister of Raigad Aditi Tatkare and Lok Sabha MP Sunil Tatkare.

While speaking to the reporters, Pawar said that the state and centre need to come together to overcome the crisis. He said that he will not demand a separate package from the centre or state but will demand their assistance to help those affected by the cyclone.

However, he asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to show the same ‘love’ for Maharashtra as he did for West Bengal after Cyclone Amphan.

The Raigad district mostly produces fish, paddy and focuses on horticulture but the cyclone has destroyed coconut, betel nut, mango and cashew orchards, the NCP chief said.

“Drought destroys crops, but if a coconut orchard is destroyed it takes 8-10 years to rebuild it. This could have an adverse effect on the farmers here,” Pawar said while adding that there was a need to take cognisance of the problem and draft policy for helping people.

Pawar, former Union Agriculture Minister, said that the priority of the state was to restore electricity in parts of the district as the power supply lines were damaged due to the cyclone.

Earlier, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray visited Alibaug in Raigad district of Maharashtra and announced an immediate relief of ₹100 crores while Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts will get ₹75 crores and ₹25 crores, respectively.
