Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday visited Raigad district to assess the damage which has been caused due to Cyclone Nisarga. The Konkan region has been particularly affected by the cyclone, although several parts of the state including Mumbai were spared most of the damage.

Pawar is on his two-day visit to Raigad and Ratnagiri districts. On Tuesday, the NCP supremo visited Mangaon in Raigad and interacted with locals at a market. He was accompanied by Raigad’s Guardian Minister Aditi Tatkare and Lok Sabha MP Sunil Tatkare.

Pawar will visit Ratnagiri on Wednesday and will interact with the cyclone-hit farmers and also hold a meeting with local representatives and state officials. The NCP supremo will also visit Shrivardhan in Raigad district where the cyclone made landfall.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced funds worth ₹200 crores for immediate relief to those affected by the cyclone. The CM has announced packages for Sindhudurg, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts which have been affected due to the cyclone.

In a tweet, the Chief Minister Office (CMO) mentioned Raigad will receive Rs 100 crore towards relief, while Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts will get ₹75 crores and ₹25 crores, respectively. The tweet specifies that these funds will go towards emergency relief to restore the damages caused by the cyclone.

Pawar’s visit comes after Thackeray reviewed the situation in Alibaug and held a meeting with the district collector there. The Chief Minister has announced ₹100 crores immediate relief for Raigad district alone.

The Maharashtra government has also announced ₹4 lakh aid to the families of six persons who were killed during the cyclone in various districts of the state. Along with this, 16 people have also been injured due to cyclone-related incidents.
