Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has demanded the resignation of BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha, accusing him of misleading residents of Mulund over the use of open land in the area.
Speaking at a public meeting near Mulund East railway station, Thackeray alleged that despite Kotecha's earlier assurance that not an inch of Mulund's land would be handed over, several acres of open land were earmarked for development projects.
Thackeray announced that his party would launch a signature campaign demanding Kotecha's resignation. The campaign aims to collect 50,000 signatures, which would later be submitted to the Governor.
Thackeray also raised concerns over several proposed land-use changes in Mulund. He alleged that around 48 acres of salt-pan land had been allocated for the rehabilitation of ineligible residents from the Dharavi redevelopment project.
He further questioned a proposal to change the reservation of land meant for a sports complex to allow a petrol pump, as well as plans for a 64-acre golf course at the Hari Om Nagar dumping ground.
According to Thackeray, these projects could put additional pressure on Mulund's infrastructure and affect the area's environment. He accused the BJP and the local MLA of failing to honour commitments made to residents.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader said the signature campaign would seek to hold elected representatives accountable and protect Mulund's open spaces.
