A dispute between the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and a former MNS functionary who later joined the Shinde-led Shiv Sena over organising the Dahi Handi festival in Bhandup has reached the Bombay High Court.
The court directed the BMC Commissioner to hold a meeting with representatives of both sides and decide who should be allowed to organise the event at Ashok Kedare Chowk in Bhandup East.
The court observed that while multiple permissions for Dahi Handi celebrations can be granted at different locations, two events cannot be held at the same spot. It also questioned why the civic administration had referred the competing applications to the police instead of taking a decision itself.
The Commissioner has been asked to hear both sides and take a final decision. The court also directed the BMC to seek an explanation from officials for failing to decide on the applications.
