In view of Ganeshotsav 2026, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has intensified road repair and improvement works across the city, with special focus on routes used for the arrival and immersion processions of Ganesh idols.
Following directions issued by Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde last week, the engineering department has launched a special road improvement drive. Teams led by executive engineers and subordinate engineers have been inspecting roads across different areas under the guidance of City Engineer Shirish Aradwad.
The inspection teams are identifying potholes, damaged road surfaces, uneven stretches and the condition of drainage and other manhole covers. Repair work is being undertaken on a priority basis, particularly along major roads and Ganesh idol procession routes.
As the monsoon is still underway, potholes are being filled after geo-tagging with Mastic Geopolymer or cold-mix material. Regular asphalt resurfacing will be carried out once there is a sufficient break in rainfall.
Special attention is being given to sensitive locations to ensure that the movement of large Ganesh idols and immersion processions is not disrupted and that citizens do not face difficulties.
Apart from keeping roads pothole-free, the civic body is also focusing on cleanliness, street lighting and essential facilities at immersion sites.
The civic administration has appealed to Navi Mumbai residents to cooperate during the festival and avoid creating unnecessary obstructions on roads. Citizens have also been urged to celebrate Ganeshotsav 2026 in an eco-friendly, plastic-free, safe and disciplined manner.
