Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray has announced relief funds for three regions affected most by Cyclone Nisarga. The CM has announced packages for Sindhudurg, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts. The Konkan region has been particularly affected by the cyclone, although several parts of the state including Mumbai were spared most of the damage.

In a tweet posted by the CMO, it is mentioned that Raigad will receive Rs 100 crore towards relief, while Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts will get Rs 75 crore and Rs 25 crore respectively. The tweet specifies that these funds will go towards emergency relief to restore the damages caused by the cyclone.

Although Nisarga made some impact on Mumbai in the form of high-speed winds and heavy rainfall, the MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) to its credit, didn’t waste any time in resuming works on the massive COVID-19 health facility being established at Bandra Kurla Complex.

While the CMO has freshly announced funds for districts affected by Cyclone Nisarga, opposition leader and former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has demanded increased relief funds for districts impacted by the cyclone in some form.

“The need of the hour is to deviate from the standing orders of NDRF and provide financial assistance. When floods ravaged parts of the state last year, my government gave Rs 4,708 crore to Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur and Rs 2,108 crore to Nashik and Konkan," Fadnavis said.

Although Cyclone Nisarga was a concern, the authorities remained focused on the coronavirus epidemic in the city. Shortly before ordering evacuation for those living on seaside shacks and nearby slums, the BMC announced that it will test every individual that was evacuated for COVID-19. The evacuees were relocated to a nearby civic shelter.
