Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Chandrakant Patil has criticised Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar for his two-day visit to Konkan region in the backdrop of Cyclone Nisarga.

While talking to reporters in Kolhapur, Patil said that the NCP chief woke up after the BJP sent aid to Konkan region. “The BJP was the first to rush and provide aid to those affected in the Konkan region due to the cyclone. Sharad Pawar has woken up now and is touring the region,” he said.

After BJP leaders visited the cyclone-hit areas, the Chief Minister who has been sitting at home for three months thought that he should also visit these areas, Patil said in an attack against Uddhav Thackeray.

“After the cyclone, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra legislative Council and BJP leader, Pravin Darekar was the first to visit the cyclone-hit areas. As this happened, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray who has been sitting at Matoshree for three months thought that he should also visit. Now, after four days of Thackeray’s visit, Sharad Pawar has also woken up,” Patil taunted.

He further stated that the BJP MLAs are not only visiting the affected areas in Konkan but have also provided supplies worth 16 truckloads for relief purposes. The BJP leader also alleged that the Maharashtra government did not anticipate any losses due to Cyclone Nisarga.

Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced funds worth ₹200 crores for immediate relief to those affected by the cyclone. The CM has announced packages for Sindhudurg, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts which have been affected due to the cyclone.

In a tweet, the Chief Minister Office (CMO) mentioned Raigad will receive Rs 100 crore towards relief, while Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts will get ₹75 crores and ₹25 crores, respectively. The tweet specifies that these funds will go towards emergency relief to restore the damages caused by the cyclone.

Pawar is on his two-day visit to Raigad and Ratnagiri districts. On Tuesday, the NCP supremo visited Mangaon in Raigad and interacted with locals at a market. He was accompanied by Raigad’s Guardian Minister Aditi Tatkare and Lok Sabha MP Sunil Tatkare.
