Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday announced an immediate relief of ₹100 crores for Raigad district which has been the most affected by Cyclone Nisarga. 

This comes after his visit to the cyclone-affected areas in Raigad district and his meeting with senior officials including district authorities at Alibaug. The Cyclone Nisarga made its landfall near Alibaug in Raigad district of Maharashtra on Wednesday at the speed of 100 to 110 km per hour. 

The Chief Minister said that he has ordered the administration to speedily and effectively assess the damage caused by the cyclone in coastal regions of Maharashtra. Thackeray has ordered the district authorities to arrange food and shelter for the villagers who have been affected by the cyclone. 

He further said that the ₹100 crore will be released to the district authorities so that immediate relief can be provided to those affected by the cyclone. 

“This is not a package but an immediate relief for those affected. After authorities submit their assessment of the damage, a package will be announced then. The assistance will also be provided to the coastal districts besides Raigad,” Thackeray said. 

The administration was working toward the restoration of power, telecommunications and house repair in the Raigad region, Thackeray said. 

The Chief Minister also talked about the increase in coronavirus threat during monsoon season and said that it was important to stop the monsoon-related ailments. 

Thackeray made his first visit to the Raigad district after the cyclone and was accompanied by Maharashtra Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray and Fisheries Minister Aslam Shaikh. Raigad Guardian Minister Aditi Tatkare and District Collector Nidhi Chaudhary briefed Thackeray about the situation. 

The Maharashtra CM has spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the Cyclone situation in Raigad district. The centre has assured all support for the damages due to the cyclone.
