Shiv Sena on Sunday slammed Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari over delay in appointment of 12 members in the legislative council of Maharashtra. The Sena also cornered Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the issue.

Recently, on the occasion of Emergency’s anniversary, Shah remarked that the greed of late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her family led to the imposition of emergency in India which was a violation of the constitution and suppression of freedom.

Referring to Shah’s remarks, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut compared the delay in appointment 12 members to the legislative council to the emergency saying that if they are not appointed on time, it would be the violation of the constitution and suppression of freedom.

In his weekly column ‘Rokhthok’ published in ‘Saamana’, Raut criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for playing politics despite the coronavirus pandemic. He said that BJP was playing politics over border tension with China and handling of the COVID-19 situation.

Raut pointed out that in Maharashtra the politics were being played over the appointment of 12 members to the legislative assembly. The Maharashtra Legislative Council has a total of 78 members out of which 12 are nominated by the governor.

The Shiv Sena leader alleged that people are hoping to topple Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in October this year but it will remain a dream. Raut claimed that BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and his associates are creating trouble asking the governor to reject the recommendation to appoint 12 members to the legislative council.

He also said that Maharashtra Governor was following the orders of Home Ministry and also blamed Shah for this delay. In his column, Raut wrote that the 12 posts have fallen vacant in June and the governor could easily appoint members but wasn’t willing to do so.

“Governor has indicated to the government that he is not in favour to complete the nomination process due to the COVID-19 situation in the state. He may not approve them till September,” Raut said.

Raut alleged that the delay was part of the plan that after toppling the MVA government, appointments will be made for the members of the new government. This is just a dream, there is no threat to the MVA government, he added.
