MVA Government forms coordination committee of MPs from all parties

Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government has decided to form a coordination committee of MPs consisting of all parties in the state. The coordination committee will be formed under the chairmanship of Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant.

This decision was taken in a meeting organised by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ahead of the upcoming Union budget session. 

In the meeting, MPs from all parties of the state were present. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar also participated in the meeting. 

During the meeting, the discussion was held on pending issues including the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute. The payment of outstanding funds that the Government of India was to allocate under various schemes was also discussed.

NCP MP Supriya Sule informed that the funds which the central government is supposed to provide to Maharashtra government have been delayed. This is affecting the projects, Sule added. 

“Maharashtra is supposed to get at least ₹15,000 crores from the centre towards GST disbursements. Last year, the central government had promised to provide relief funds for those affected in the floods in western Maharashtra. However, nothing has come so far,” Supriya Sule was quoted in news reports. 

Sule further informed that the co-ordinating committee was recommended by NCP chief Sharad Pawar and was unanimously agreed by everyone. 

Another issue which was discussed in the meeting focused on the ₹3,290 crore financial aid given to local bodies by the Maharashtra government. The grant was provided to compensate for the abolition of local body tax after GST implementation.

The co-ordination committee of MPs will put forward the demand before centre to reimburse Maharashtra government for the same.
