After an old age home in Bhiwandi witnessed a COVID-19 breakout last month, a resident, who had co-morbidities, succumbed to infection.

According to reports, a 72-year-old resident from Bhiwandi’s Matoshri Old Age Home died on Saturday morning, December 4 at Thane Civil Hospital. Meanwhile, three other senior citizens are in the ICU.

Thane health officials are not leaving any stone unturned and have screened Sorgaon village, where the old age home is located. Five persons tested positive.

Meanwhile, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) officials said that more than 80 persons, including residential workers and their family members, have been admitted at the Thane Civil Hospital, out of which 38 have tested positive, while others have been kept in isolation.

Officials said that most of the inmates are above 70 years old and some have co-morbidities as well. Though their health is steady, they have been shifted to keep them under close observation.

On Monday, November 29, 55 senior citizens and seven staff members of an old age home, who had tested positive for coronavirus, were in a "stable" condition and are being treated at a civil hospital in Thane. Of the total patients, samples of 15 were sent for genome sequencing.

Following the incident, the area was declared a containment zone and the primary health centre carried out a detailed survey on the same.
