Mumbai division of Central Railway (CR) has decided to introduce flexible working hours for benefit of the employees.
The concept will be implemented from November 1. This decision was taken by Rajnish Kumar Goyal, divisional railway manager (Mumbai) of CR.
Eight years after the idea of staggered working hours was first proposed to avoid peak hours of travelling by trains from the residential place to office. Earlier, it was going to be implemented from December.
Under this, the CR staff will have the option to select either of the two working hour slots of 09.30 am to 5.45 pm and 11.30 am to 7:45 pm.

The employees will have the flexibility to select one of the above rosters, but any changes to the roster must be made at the beginning of a new month. Mid-month changes will not be allowed. This procedure is designed to ensure smooth operations and planning.
For the next few days, railways will monitor this change in work timings. There are 2,500-odd staffers working at CSMT who travel long distances from different parts of Mumbai. Goyal held meetings with his employees, railway unions and fellow rail officers recently to ensure the feasibility of dual work hours.
A major motivating factor was the number of accidents that happen on the local railway from overcrowding.
