As the 10-day Ganeshotsav begins tomorrow, August 31, the Mumbai police are geared up with elaborate arrangements to ensure that the festival passes off smoothly, without major traffic delays.

For this, Mumbai Police have deployed more than 10,644 personal along with home guard, volunteers, traffic wardens, civil defence and NCC.

What Arrangements Have Been Made?

  • Mumbai traffic police have set up five control rooms at important immersion places -- Girgaon Chowpatty, Shivaji Park Chowpatty, Juhu Chowpatty, Malad Malwani T-junction and Ganesh Ghat at Powai.
  • The control rooms will become operational from August 31 and continue to function till September 9, when the 10-day religious festival ends.
  • The police are also erecting watch towers at strategic places for monitoring and regulating traffic flow during procession and immersion.
  • Arrangements for barricading important roads have been made to segregate procession crowds.
  • Cranes are being stationed at strategic locations to remove any vehicles that break down.
  • First aid centres have also been set up.
  • Moreover, the traffic police said 74 roads will remain closed for vehicular traffic on Ganesha immersion days – second, fifth and tenth day (September 1,4,5,6 and 9) of the festival - from 12 pm to 6 pm. Whereas 54 roads will be marked as one-way, 57 roads will remain closed for goods vehicles and 114 roads will have parking restrictions during the 10-day period.
