A major fire broke out, on Thursday midnight, at Sudarshan Chemical Company in Dhatav Industrial Estate of Dhatav MIDC in Roha of Raigad district. However, no casualty was reported.

The fire, which was followed by an explosion, caused panic in the locality as the inferno could be seen from a distance of about 2 kilometres. All the workers had left the premises as the raging fire could not be controlled by the fire extinguishers that they had on the premise.

It took the fire-fighting more than an hour to douse the fire. The operation was carried out by four fire tenders and water tankers from the Roha civic body and MIDC fire brigade.

Even though the fire tenders tried to get the damage under control as soon as possible, they could not save the end product manufactured by the company. This has resulted in a huge monetary loss.

The company’s project head Sanjay Shevde informed that the fire broke out due to a short circuit at the storage plant around 12.15 am.

A similar blast had taken place on November 5, in Khopoli area of Raigad, where 2 people were killed and six others were injured. The explosion had occurred around 2:30 am following which a fire broke out in the premises.
